Landscape Led Design & Connectivity

Landscape-led design

The proposed site layout has been designed to respect and integrate with the edge of Shipston, by creating an attractive welcome to the village. Importantly, the sensitive design complements and enhances the relationship with the edge of the village.

A Landscape and Visual Appraisal has been carried out on the Site, and its context, to establish the key constraints and opportunities in landscape terms. The masterplan has evolved to incorporate a substantial green buffer along the northern edge to improve habitat connectivity and help protect middle to long distance views from the roads and footpaths to the north.

The landscape design includes green spaces and features that support wildlife, helping to meet planning requirements for both public open space and biodiversity improvements.

Site access and connectivity

Vehicular access to the site will be provided from Darlingscote Road, in the form of a T-junction. The access will incorporate provision for active travel, with a new footway linking the access and existing footway provision on Darlingscote Road. The design and location of the access, and associated off-site works, will be decided as part of the outline planning application.

The access arrangements will ensure connectivity between the site and existing sustainable transport networks, including existing footway provision within the town, neighbouring Public Rights of Way (PRoW) and National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 5. This will maximise the opportunities for use of sustainable modes of transport for travel to the range of facilities and services within the wider town, all of which are within walking distance.

The design of the internal road network and parking provision will be set out and agreed at the reserved matters stage, in accordance with the adopted standards at that time.
